Storm Update 6/15-16/2023

As we head into the night, we still have crews working around the clock. Our Mutual Aid reinforcements have arrived and are working along side our crews to get the power restored. We will continue to work through the night. We thank you for your understanding as we navigate your power restoration.

We've posted other updates, but this seemed to be getting a little dated.  As the day has progressed, members have reported more leaning poles, and upon inspection, most of them have been broken.  The crews are getting weary, but they are determined.  There are currently 326 outages affecting 7,500 members.  Mutual Aid reinforcements are headed our way.  We continue to thank you for your patience and understanding.

Daylight brings new energy to a bunch of tired line crews that have been working through the night to restore service.  In the past few hours, we've restored service to an additional 7,000 members; and the count continues to decline.  As of 7:30 AM there are still 10,000 members without service.  We continue to thank you for your patience and understanding.

As we near dawn, we have worked through the night to restore service.  We have experienced pole fires, fallen trees, broken poles, parts of barns or buildings tangled with the wires and two accidents with vehicles striking poles.  We continue to make progress - starting with 38,000 members without power at the peak, we have reduced this to 18,000.  We thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue our efforts.

3:40 A.M. Update - We are continuing to work throughout the early morning. Our crews are working as safely, efficiently and quickly as possible. Our crews are facing broken poles, poles on fire and downed lines. We are here for you, and will continue to work until we are able to restore power.

As of Midnight, all of our line crews, five contract crews and ten tree trimming crews have reported for duty and begun assessment of damages and restoration of service.  In total, we have well over 100 people working tonight.

11:00 PM Update - All crews are reporting to the office.  There are currently about 35,000 members without power.  We have reports of poles and wire down, trees blocking most county roads and other damage throughout the service area.  As we begin restoration efforts, we appreciate your understanding, cooperation and patience.  Please STAY AWAY from any downed lines.  Always assume they are dangerous.  You can see our outage map at www.gcec.net to check progress, but we anticipate longer than normal restoration times.

We are aware of outages throughout Grayson County and northern Collin County.  Much of our service area is currently under a Tornado Warning.  When it is safe for the crews, we will begin power restoration efforts.  Thanks for your understanding and patience.

8:56 p.m. : As storms continue to come across our service area, we know several of our communities are taking cover. We have prepared to our best ability and our employees are prepared to work as safely and as efficiently as Mother Nature will allow. Our employees are taking shelter and then will continue to work when the warnings have been lifted.
